Seminar - Microvesicles in cell-cell communication

THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA
Department of Microbiology and Immunology
presents a seminar by:
Dr. Sherri Christian
Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Memorial University of Newfoundland & Alumni of MICB at UBC
entitled:
Microvesicles in cell-cell communication

Abstract: Microvesicles are derived from the plasma membrane of the cell and, similar to exosomes, can mediate cell-cell communication. We have recently found that the cell surface receptor CD24 can induce the formation of CD24-bearing microvesicles from B lymphocytes. Ongoing work is characterizing the nature of these microvesicles including their composition, function, and biogenesis.
